Some people that know me might say, you have been a geek for a while but to me, this weekend made me realize I was getting truly excited about using technology in class and life in general. I have used all kinds of devices, apps and software in my physical education lessons but still, only now am I really converted. Several years ago I realized that technology is guiding us how we live our lives for now and in the future. It is fully clear that it has already changed how we learn and above all how our students learn and live nowadays.
Being in the Google summit http://kr.gafesummit.com/ in Seoul over the last 2 days made it clear we (educators en-mass!) are also thinking differently! I guess you have to believe in it (which I already did), you need to use it (which I already did) but there is a difference between using it and living it. It is like a school's mission statement! We all agree and believe in it but most of the times, we do not really live it! When it comes to our clientele, our students and children, they have been convinced long time ago (read: did not need to get convinced!)
As said, I am quite a tech person, certainly within the world of Physical Education but I was impressed with the vibe at the summit and the knowledge and passion among fellow educators. The general message was not whether we should use technology, not how to deal with hardware issues etc etc. It seemed to me that educators en-mass have moved forward and are looking simply at what else we can use to enhance learning.
The essence off the summit to me was this: Creating - Collaborating - Publishing!
I am buzzing with ideas, keep following my blog in the coming time for more updates, ideas and uploads. Meanwhile I will adopt technology into my life and work and hopefully I can help others in moving forward.
