Several people have asked me how to use QR codes in their lessons. Is it really beneficial, does it require a lot of time? To be honest if you do things for the first time it is always more time consuming then you would like it to be, but the more often you do it the easier it gets. And the beauty with educational videos is that you can keep it as a resource and pull it out when ever you need it again. We have spent quite some time on our first video examples, like how to jump on a vault, but now we have the video, it is linked to a QR code and ready to be used over and over again.
To start making a video you need to have a clear picture of the message you want to get across. With an example video we choose to have 3 key focus points followed by an example video, a slow motion video of the same move, and a repeat clip of the 3 key points. The video was shot with an iPod and imported into iMovie, where the text was added and the slow motion was created. After completion the clip was uploaded to our youtube page. Youtube automatically gives you the url code for your video, this code is pasted into a QRcode generator that spits out your QR image - and you are ready!
If you only want to get some text across then you simply record your own voice/face in iMovie and follow the same steps. This actually took me about 10 minutes per video to get it right.
One thing that I have learned is that is is convenient to have the URL pasted underneath your QR code in case you are working on a computer and can not remember what the QR code was for!
