Frequently I get asked the question what progress our students have actually made in our classes. Our management team comes down occasionally and pops in for a few minutes, so they get a glimpse of what is happening. If it were not for the fact that they get invited to some performances of the students, they actually see very little of the real potential of our students.
Luckily we are now provided with a tool that can demonstrate student learning. Last year my colleague introduced a program called "Aurasma" to our department. A fantastic tool that brings your lessons to life! It gives you an opportunity to showcase what your students have achieved to the school community. It is a fantastic app that allows you to scan a poster (similar to a QR code) but then to everybody's surprise the posters come to life! The initial shock on the faces of the students is hilarious but they find it intriguing to see themselves perform.
The posters provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate student learning, the progress made, in an engaging and interesting format. Last year we had a wall with posters with various student dances, matches and gymnastic routines from different grade levels. Parents, teachers, students and the administration would stop, take their phone out and look at the performances from their friends, students or child. Just have a look at the Aurasma demo to get an impression.
