This blog is new but old at the same time. It is now 2 months ago that this was real time but still, I felt I wanted to blog it. The impact of moving/change in general is part of our comfort zone. Let's see if people recognize our experiences.
It had been 6 years since we made the decision to move jobs and with that change country (continent) and although we knew for well what it entails, experiencing the move brings back memories, realizations and above all a great learning opportunity.
Monday 29th July, Remke, myself and our 2 daughters stepped on a plane at Amsterdam airport (Schiphol) at gate B24. It would bring us to Seoul, South Korea after spending the last 6 years of our lives in Berlin. This time we went with the 4 of us and not just the 2 of us and making such a move with children definitely made it different and more challenging. The challenge excited us although! 13 hours later we stepped out of the plane at Incheon airport and were welcomed by a warm and humid climate. Met by several people from school, we were brought to our new home for the next few years and it was quite weird walking into an empty apartment. It is pretty normal to have feelings of doubt and fears, thinking; why have we left our save and comfortable life in Berlin for Seoul, Korea? We take these big steps once every few years but those moments of doubt are normal for us as well, we just do not let them stop us from going! Looking at our two girls of 3 and 5, we wondered whether this was going to be the right choice. Did we know? No but we were confident. Do we know now? yes, very good move! Is it a challenge? yes but staying would have brought some challenges as well. not yet. Fact is, making a change like this requires some guts and with the right attitude, it will open new doors and provide us as a family in life and professionally with new opportunities. It keeps us sharp, excites us, inspires us and moves us forward in life!
